Student Volunteers

 Student Volunteer Instructions

Look at the schedule and see which shift stations you’re working at & read the corresponding instructions for that station below! If you have questions - email, call, or text me! I’ll be on site for all student volunteer shifts to help you and make sure you have everything you need to do your job & everything you need to have a fun day!

If you have service hour sheets that we’ll need to sign - bring them with you to the event!

Bounce House Volunteers:

  • Your job is to, first and foremost, make sure that kids are bouncing safely! There are TWO bounce structures at each event.

  • I trust you and your judgement - whatever you have to do to keep kiddos safe! No overcrowding the bounce house, make sure you’re regulating how many kids are in the bouncies at once, etc. You’re the “big kid” here so be as firm as you have to be!

  • Parents are usually nearby - so they’ll be there to help monitor their own kids, too.

  • Let’s try to keep teens out of the bounce houses… we don’t want them jumping and ruining the experience for the littles! (Unless it’s you… you can bounce if you really feel the need to.)

Sanitation Volunteers:

  • I cannot stress the importance of this job! This event is known for a lot of things - cleanliness being one of them! It’s humble, hard work… but it makes a really big difference in this event!

  • I’ll have all the cleaning supplies you need, and you’ll have your own dedicated tent where all of your happy little supplies will live - garbage bags, gloves, sanitizer, towels & food-safe chemicals to clean tables, little trash grabber things, etc!

  • Your mission - walk around and empty trash and recycling… and take it to the giant trash/recycling receptacles. Can I give you a helpful hint? 1/3 or 1/2 full trash bags are much lighter than full ones! So just meander around… and when you see one that you think is ready… go ahead and grab the bag and replace it with a new one!

Event Setup & Teardown:

  • These shifts will have a little bit of everything:

    • Setting up and tearing down tables and chairs

    • Loading/unloading event supplies from our trucks

    • Putting up/tearing down fencing & gates

    • Final cleanup of the event space

    • Any additional operations needs that might come up during your shift!

 General Instructions:

  • Help each other! We’ll be alongside you to give you instructions but if you find something to be helpful, share it with your fellow volunteers. During the event: First shift… be sure to pass along any helpful instructions to the second shifters that are coming in to relieve you!

  • Dress Code: NO SANDALS OR OPEN TOED SHOES! If you’re working during the event, you’ll be wearing a volunteer tee shirt - they will be at the event for you to put on! Don’t forget your sunscreen (I will sunscreen police you if you look like you’re burning!)

  • Stay hydrated while you work - we’ll have water and soda for you. You’ll be on your feet the whole time. If you feel sick or overheated… immediately tell a nearby adult or student volunteer - get to the shade, sit down, and drink water. A member of our team will help you and stay with you until you feel well enough to continue working OR need to go home.

  • We’re all here to look out for each other! Be nice, smile, stay focused and represent this event well - I take a ton of pride in my volunteer fleet for these events… make me proud!

  • BE ON TIME! Keep in mind, this is a BIG event… parking might be a challenge, so give yourself plenty of time to make your way to the event space! But if you’re running a little late… don’t panic and don’t turn around and go home… but PLEASE try to be on time… it’s a favor to your teammates!

  • Swapping with friends: I want you to be able to volunteer alongside your friends… so if you’re split up on two different stations, you guys can all swap in and out amongst yourselves - but you HAVE to find somebody to replace you, especially my bounce house volunteers… we cannot be short staffed at the bounce houses! But yes… swap, take turns, etc. But start your shift where you’re assigned and begin your work and have it under control before you swap!

Hi! I’m Jacquelyn - I coordinate all of the volunteers for Food Truck Fight® and I’m really excited to have you guys on my team! I’ll be working alongside your Service Hour Coordinator to help get you signed up for your volunteer time slots. You can work as many hours as you’d like during Food Truck Fight® weekend.

We are so excited to have you at Food Truck Fight®, and you are all a really important part of that. This year, our student volunteers will be helping with event sanitation, bounce house safety, event setup & teardown.

Giving Back

Since the first event in 2017, Food Truck Fight® has donated back to each host community. Parks & Recreation, Fire, Police, Emergency Services, and Non-Profit Organizations have benefitted from a Food Truck Fight’s presence in their city. Our goal is to support our host communities, the way they have supported us!
